After the Second Saturday festivities, head to the Main Street Gallery for desserts, champagne, door prizes, silent auction, and more at the 2nd Annual Visionary Valentine bash, 7:30-10pm. Here are the Second Saturday highlights: It’s date night downtown on Second Saturday, Feb. 13. Make your Valentine’s dinner reservations in advance, then plan to arrive early and stay late so as to make the most of late shopping hours, gallery and shop receptions, live music, and more. SHOPPING: The festivities begin at 5pm as shops on High, Poplar, and Race streets extend their hours until 8 or 9pm, offering one-of-a-kind gifts and special sales on clothing, jewelry, housewares, antiques, and more. • Sterling jewelry is half off at LunaChick, 430 Race Street. • Winter fashions are as much as half off at Sunnyside, 500 Poplar Street, and Dragonfly Boutique, 406 Race Street. • Many shops will be offering free Valentine’s-themed gift wrapping as well. • And earlier in the day, stop by the Second Saturday Book Sale at the Cambridge Library, 9am-2pm.
• The Dorchester Center for the Arts, 321 High Street, will be holding a reception from 6-8 pm honoring the artists featured in their new annual Members Show & Sale, with paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and more. • Be sure to stop at nearby Chesapeake Classics, 317 High Street, which showcases the work of top decoy carvers, along with lots of other waterfowling memorabilia. • At 410 Race Street, Joie de Vivre Gallery will be hosting a wine and cheese reception while showcasing the work of fiber artist Elissa Crouch, as well as new work by Paul Lockhart. • The Danny Doughty Gallery will also be open late. • The Main Street Gallery, 413 Muir Street, will open at 7:30pm for a special ticketed Visionary Valentines event. • Another special event gets going at 10pm, when veteran D.C. bluesman Jimmy Cole and his bandmates hit the stage at Jimmie & Sook’s, 421 Race Street.

Updated February 13, 2010—Main Street volunteers spent hours Friday clearing snow from downtown sidewalks, and most parking lots are plowed. So things are ready for the Valentine's Second Saturday Feb. 13. Restaurants will be packed, shops will stay open late, and galleries will be opening new shows.
