MAY 9, 2009 - GROOVE CITY JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL


Second Saturday! Fifth annual Groove City Jazz & Blues Festival features the rockin’ blues woman Deanna Bogart (winner of more than 20 Washington Area Music Awards); jazz saxophonist Carl Grubbs (winner of the prestigious 2009 Baker Arts Award); and roots maestros The Junkyard Saints (Washington Area Music Awards “Artist of the Year” winner) on Saturday, May 9 at Race and Cedar streets in historic downtown Cambridge on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Also performing: the Mike Elzey Blues Band, D.C. bluesman Jimmy Cole, and local dance troupe the Ragin' Unstoppables. This daylong outdoor festival, 1–8 p.m., also features vendors offering food, drinks, crafts, kids’ activities, and more. Event is free, with $10 donations requested from adults at the gate. of last year's Jazz & Blues Fest! When the festival wraps up at 8 p.m., head two blocks to Scoop Station (400 Muir St.) for the funk, soul, and rock and roll sounds of Hudson Resolution.  Sponsored by Cambridge Main Street, Coors Light, Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay, St. Michaels RV, Dorchester Center for the Arts, Delmarva Power, and the Maryland State Arts Council. This event benefits efforts toward the continued revitalization of Historic Downtown Cambridge.
